Beginnings

The Prince’s Rainforests Project (PRP) was set up by HRH The Prince of Wales in a speech to WWF (formerly Worldwide Fund for Nature) in October 2007.

It received widespread publicity at the time and was seen as the natural progression for a career devoted to concern about the environment.

Drawing on his experience of working in the corporate responsibility arena, HRH The Prince of Wales began by asking international businesses such as Shell, Barclays and Rio Tinto to form a Steering Group. That group now numbers sixteen and a full list can be found here.

The Project team now comprises 14 individuals recruited from the areas of business, the World Bank and NGOs, who are orbited by experts in the rainforest field prepared to provide their skills.
